Its nice to be able to hold a wine like this back and release it when its just starting to show its best form and this one is. The season in 2019 crept up on people and before they realised it it emerged as one of the better years... It has loads of deep dark fruit characters with a slightly leathery blackcurrant leafy tobacco character. It really is an excellent wine with good weight as well as structure. Cellar for 20 years. 97 Points Ray Jordan

Reviews Its nice to be able to hold a wine like this back and release it when its just starting to show its best form and this one is. The season in 2019 crept up on people and before they realised it it emerged as one of the better years. This very small production wine follows the normal pattern of open ferment hand plunging and basket pressing but it then went into 18 months of new French oak. That could normally be a lot of oak but this weight of fruit concentration and power has easily handled it and the result is a wine of impeccable balance and poise. It has loads of deep dark fruit characters with a slightly leathery blackcurrant leafy tobacco character. It really is an excellent wine with good weight as well as structure. Cellar for 20 years. 97 Points Ray JordanDeep dark and concentrated colour holding its youth well. Complex mellowed aromas of forest floor tobacco earth and moss. Intriguing wine. There are notes of roasted meats stock and porcini mushroom too. The wine is rich and full in the mouth with mature flavours and abundant drying powder-soft tannins. Good line and length. This retains vigour and intensity drive and persistence. A very smart cabernet with maturity albeit rather advanced. 93 Points Huon Hooke The Real Review

Tasting Notes
Colour Deep ruby red.Aroma Lifted red currants and stewed strawberries with beautiful cedar and cigar box notes. Touches of chocolate and black olives.Palate Rich and brooding with classic Cabernet flavours of black currants and black jubes. Complex aged notes of leather and tobacco are just starting to come through with lovely soft but present tannins giving length and depth. A wine of provenance that will continue to develop further with age.
Winemakers Notes
Vinification Harvested in the cool early hours the Cabernet was delivered directly to open fermenters ensuring pristine fruit with minimal material other than grapes. After a brief cold soak fermentation began with a Bordeaux yeast strain. Gentle rack-and-returns early on helped extract fine tannins and vibrant colour followed by careful hand plunging as the ferment progressed. The wine remained on skins for 33 days allowing time for structure and complexity to build naturally. Basket-pressed to tank for malolactic fermentation it was then transferred to 90 new and 10 seasoned French oak for 18 months of maturation. This significant oak influence was effortlessly balanced by the vintages concentration and power resulting in a wine of poise depth and longevity. No fining or tannin additions were used.2019 Vintage Rating 810 The 2019 vintage started about 2 weeks later than the previous few years and had been cool very different to the rest of the country. Yields have been lower. Lovely white wines have had time to develop delicate flavours while retaining natural acidity. A bit of mid-vintage rain refreshed the reds then the fruit hung out there allowing for a long slow ripening period. There was no Marri flowers so netting of all varieties was necessary.
Food Pairings
Filet steak with garlice or pepper sauce. Cheddar venison chorizo dark chocolate.

About Cape Grace Wines

In 1996, Robert and Karen Karri-Davies planted their 15-acre vineyard on the headwaters of the Wilyabrup Valley, managed under sustainable practices from the outset. Since then, Cape Grace has been dedicated to producing consistently high-quality, single-vineyard wines that reflect both site and season, earning multiple James Halliday star ratings over the years. Handcrafted with patience and care, and basket pressed using traditional methods, our wines capture the character and flavours of the unique Wilyabrup sub-region of Margaret River and its exceptional growing conditions. All estate-grown fruit is vinified on site, allowing complete control from grape to bottle. Minimal intervention, alongside strict temperature and hygiene regimes, ensures each variety can express its natural flavour profile. Our red wines are gently hand plunged, basket pressed, and matured in French oak barriques for 12–18 months. Following extensive barrel tastings and blending trials, the final selection is carefully assembled, gently fined and bottled. Often described as one of Margaret River’s “great little wineries,” Cape Grace has been rewarded with three trophies, more than 175 medals, and consistently strong critical acclaim. The winery has previously featured in James Halliday’s Ten of the Best New Wineries and is currently rated a 4-Star Winery in the Halliday Wine Companion. Total production remains deliberately small, ranging from 1,500 to 2,200 dozen cases depending on the season. Further information and detailed tasting notes can be found at www.capegracewines.com.au

Customer Reviews
See what our customers have been saying about their Australia Tasting Room Experience
J Mason
Just a quick note to say I am so glad I found Australia Tasting Room! Since leaving Australia, I have missed some of my favorite wines. I researched other freight companies, but none offered the personal touch service of Australia Tasting Room. You have a great selection from the best vineyards. You added others upon request, and also gave great recommendations when asked. And customer service does not stop with the purchase— The team keep me updated on the shipment every step of the way! I cannot imagine a better service from people who know wine and love to share that knowledge. You have a customer for life! Cheers, J Mason

The wine was delivered by GSO Courier early this am and was in perfect shipping condition. The bottle temperature was cool to the touch which is amazing given we have been hitting 37C every day for the last week here in our California summer.
Well done!
I have put the wine into our temperature controlled bottle storage to let them rest for a week (mostly for the 3 bottles of red). I did put one of the Rosés in the frig which we will try tomorrow because we are out to dinner tonight with friends.
Your Rose of Virginia is my favorite rosé, above French and Californians that we have consumed with Tablas Creek “Dianthus” from near Paso Robles being a second.
Now that we have experienced a shipment from you, I am sure we will order a couple of cases more but will wait until weather is cooler for us and the wine.
Again thanks for an excellent wine and the good service.
Cheers,
Richard A.

The wine arrived last week in good shape - nothing broken or leaked. Your packing design is impressive. Laying it down for a couple of months to settle in. Looking forward to enjoying it. Thanks very much

Australia Tasting Room is a very fine company, with professional direction and management. I appreciate the friendly service, and all your efforts above and beyond to make all deliveries happen. Most impressive were the instant answers and responses any time I had a question. All during a pandemic! Pretty amazing when you think about it.
Highest regards,
Judy M
P.S. One Contact, One Process, and One Delivery - customers and wine treated equally and expertly, with care. You really can’t beat that! Great job.
