The 2021 Old Vine Lowke Block release is an inky full-throttle Barossa red that captures the power and depth of its 50-year-old dry-grown vines on Research Road. Intensely aromatic with dark berries plum chocolate and warm spice it delivers a rich dense and layered palate wrapped in fine tannins and subtle oak complexity. Sourced from a mass-selection vineyard planted over half a century ago on brown earth and redorange clay the wine reflects the sites natural concentration and character. Crafted through small open ferments cold soak and minimal intervention before three years in new French oak and bottling in October 2024 it is both bold and finely balanced built for long-term ageing with only 1200 bottles produced. Plush powerful and unapologetically expressive it will evolve gracefully through 2040 and pairs beautifully with slow-roasted meats braised beef venison chargrilled ribeye and aged cheeses.

The palate is rich dense and layered delivering a surge of ripe fruit wrapped in fine persistent tannins and subtle oak-driven complexity. Despite its sheer concentration the wine remains balanced flowing with both power and refinement through a long enveloping finish. This is a wine that rewards slow appreciation now and promises even greater depth with time.

Winemakers Notes

Sourced from a mass-selection dry-grown vineyard planted more than half a century ago this wine speaks strongly of its Lowke Block origins. The sites brown earth and redorange clay contributes to a naturally intense expression of North Barossa fruit. After small-batch open ferments cold soak and minimal intervention the wine matured for three years in new French oak before bottling in October 2024. Crafted to showcase the vineyards raw strength and ageing potential this is a wine built for long-term cellaring. Only 1200 bottles were produced with wooden presentation boxes available.
