A minimum of any 6 bottles is required for each winery you purchase from.
The winemaking team at Elderton believe this is truly the hidden gem in the Elderton portfolio of premium reds. A Cabernet/Shiraz/Merlot blend was added to our portfolio from the 1992 vintage. It was a belief that through blending only the best parcels of fruit from the Elderton vineyard, a truly wondrous and complete wine could be made that showed the highlights of the three grape varieties. The decision was made from the 2002 vintage onwards for the wine to be renamed (from CSM) in honour of co-founder of Elderton Wines, Lorraine Ashmead. This wine is dedicated to a woman who is greatly admired in the Barossa for her passion, dedication and commitment to not only Elderton, but to all the wonders that make our beautiful valley so special.

The wine is a blend of 48 Cabernet Sauvignon 46 Shiraz with the remaining 6 being Merlot. The fruit is sourced from Nuriootpa from vines up to 130 years in age and the wine spends twenty-two months in French puncheons for maturation.Quite a dark but vibrant red the nose weaves through aromas of mushrooms aniseed coffee grinds wild raspberries cloves black fruits and smoked meats. The wine has a really appealing savoriness is of medium length with good focus and a lingering finish right through to the sleek tannins. Winemakers Notes
2024 was a vintage that will long be remembered. Great winter rains leading into the season aside from isolated hail events in the Spring which luckily skipped over our vineyards there was nothing unusual to concern us. As the ripening phase continued the weather remained cool and dry. The Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend comes from a gnarly spur pruned parcel planted in the 1960s.Typically it delivers structure with a distinct juicy herbal edge which is certainly showing in our 2024. Our Shiraz from vines planted in the 50s is pressed off allowing the just a little barrel fermentation to complete ferment before malolactic fermentation. This helps to integrate the oak while allowing the fruit to shine through. A waft of Merlot adds a little polish to the mid palate.- Jules Ashmead Brock Harrison
Food Pairings
Generous and beautifully balanced this wine is made for slow satisfying meals. Pair with chargrilled lamb backstrap slow-cooked lamb shoulder or rich beef dishes like short rib or cheeks. It also works wonderfully with aged hard cheeses. Best enjoyed when the meal is unhurried and the conversation runs long.

The wine was delivered by GSO Courier early this am and was in perfect shipping condition. The bottle temperature was cool to the touch which is amazing given we have been hitting 37C every day for the last week here in our California summer.

I have put the wine into our temperature controlled bottle storage to let them rest for a week (mostly for the 3 bottles of red). I did put one of the Rosés in the frig which we will try tomorrow because we are out to dinner tonight with friends.
Your Rose of Virginia is my favorite rosé, above French and Californians that we have consumed with Tablas Creek “Dianthus” from near Paso Robles being a second.
Now that we have experienced a shipment from you, I am sure we will order a couple of cases more but will wait until weather is cooler for us and the wine.
