This wine was made from a single vineyard near the Chalk Hill cellar door overlooking the township of McLaren Vale. The vineyard sits around 100 meters above sea level with the coast around 6 kilometers to the west. The geology is predominantly fossiliferous calcareous siltstone from the Eocene period approximately 56 to 34 million years ago.

A strapping wine brimming with blue fruit flowers and iodine hiding its power behind structural restraint and fine-boned tannins. Theres a saline taste of peppercorn freshness. Hear from Marcus Ellis for Halliday Wine Companion -From a single site on clay loam soil harvested in two tranches with one seeing 30 whole bunch matured in French oak 14 new. This is deep and brooding dark of fruit spicy and with the rugged feeling of iron and clay. Black plum dried black cherry and olive licorice and tar. It initially feels the most classically powerful of the three but its handled so deftly style a function of place. The charm comes in the compression the lack of easy fruit sweetness the coiled Italianate tannins the drive through a long and perky finish where red fruits join the fray. This is truly excellent a compelling wine and one that will have a long and meaningful life. |

Tasting Notes
AROMA A complex aroma of dark berries and blue fruits graphite pepper woody herbs anise and hints of dark chocolate. TASTE The palate is textured and has dark fruit characters and spice along with a savoury minerally line. It is structural and whilst has richness is also elegant and refined. DRINKING WINDOW Decant when drinking young the wine will drink well for 5-7 years.

Seaview is close to the heart of McLaren Vale and produces wines which are luscious and concentrated. The layer of ironstone provides a rich dark mineral backbone to the wines.ALTITUDE 110 metersSOIL Grey Sandy loam. Fine grained sandy soils.MINERALS Blanche point formation layers of sandstone limestone and then into iron stone bedrock.

The wine was delivered by GSO Courier early this am and was in perfect shipping condition. The bottle temperature was cool to the touch which is amazing given we have been hitting 37C every day for the last week here in our California summer.

I have put the wine into our temperature controlled bottle storage to let them rest for a week (mostly for the 3 bottles of red). I did put one of the Rosés in the frig which we will try tomorrow because we are out to dinner tonight with friends.
Your Rose of Virginia is my favorite rosé, above French and Californians that we have consumed with Tablas Creek “Dianthus” from near Paso Robles being a second.
Now that we have experienced a shipment from you, I am sure we will order a couple of cases more but will wait until weather is cooler for us and the wine.
