Geologist is our first Old Vine Grenache Shiraz Mataro, inspired by a small block of Mataro planted in 1913 that underpins a blend celebrating the Barossa’s deep-rooted vineyards and seven generations of the Lindner family. Drawing on gnarly old vines long cherished in the region, it weaves Grenache’s bright red fruits, Shiraz’s plush depth and Mataro’s savoury spice into a seamless, medium-bodied wine of perfume, texture and balance. Crafted in the spirit of the Three Gardens GSM but through an old-vine lens, these traditional Barossa varieties have been grown since the 1840s. This inaugural release offers a contemporary expression of history in the glass, inviting drinkers to taste the story of three of the valley’s most treasured varieties when the stars align.

Tasting Notes
Colour Medium depth crimson with purple hues. Aroma A rich and inviting aroma of dark cherry plum and sweet spice mingle with hints of mocha and savoury notes adding complexity. Palate Juicy red berries and dark cherries flow through the palate with generous sweet fruit balancing with sweet and briary spices. The finish lingers on a fruity and spicy note with youthful grippy and chalky tannins extending the length. Cellaring 2025-2035
Winemakers Notes
The 2024 vintage followed a dry 2023 with below-average winter rainfall and an earlier bud burst by three weeks. Frost risks in September and October led to reduced yields but cooler days in December and early January allowed the vines to flourish resulting in veraison occurring a month earlier. February brought no rain and temperatures 2C above average but autumn remained dry with a heatwave in early March followed by a cool end to the season. Barossa Valley reds are darker and more intense while Eden Valley whites showed fantastic flavours and natural acidity. Reds flourished producing joyful wines not seen in 2022 and 2023. Vintage wrapped up in April marking another great cooler vintage.

The wine was delivered by GSO Courier early this am and was in perfect shipping condition. The bottle temperature was cool to the touch which is amazing given we have been hitting 37C every day for the last week here in our California summer.

I have put the wine into our temperature controlled bottle storage to let them rest for a week (mostly for the 3 bottles of red). I did put one of the Rosés in the frig which we will try tomorrow because we are out to dinner tonight with friends.
Your Rose of Virginia is my favorite rosé, above French and Californians that we have consumed with Tablas Creek “Dianthus” from near Paso Robles being a second.
Now that we have experienced a shipment from you, I am sure we will order a couple of cases more but will wait until weather is cooler for us and the wine.
