Tasting Notes
Vibrant red strawberry hue. A fresh lift of red berries and floral aromas greet from the outset. There is a depth to the plumby and boysenberry notes with complimentary mountain herbs and bramble adding layers of intrigue. Subtle carbonic notes hint at judicious whole-bunch use adding another layer to the complex bouquet. On the palate succulent squishy red berries appear from entry. Just-ripe raspberries and plumbs glide along a latticework of silky pinot tannins. There is an elasticity to the texture which gives the wine presence and life that continues on the palate to astonishing depth.
Winemakers Notes
Hand-picked and sorted prior to destemming 75 of the berries into an open fermenter on top of 25 whole bunches. Fermentation proceeded naturally and lasted two weeks prior to pressing to French oak barrels. of which 10 were new. Malolactic conversion was completed in barrel where the wine remained on its gross lees for 10 months followed by a further six months on lees in tank before bottling.

The wine was delivered by GSO Courier early this am and was in perfect shipping condition. The bottle temperature was cool to the touch which is amazing given we have been hitting 37C every day for the last week here in our California summer.

I have put the wine into our temperature controlled bottle storage to let them rest for a week (mostly for the 3 bottles of red). I did put one of the Rosés in the frig which we will try tomorrow because we are out to dinner tonight with friends.
Your Rose of Virginia is my favorite rosé, above French and Californians that we have consumed with Tablas Creek “Dianthus” from near Paso Robles being a second.
Now that we have experienced a shipment from you, I am sure we will order a couple of cases more but will wait until weather is cooler for us and the wine.
