2023 McLaren Vale Grenache 65 Shiraz 25 Mourvedre 10The Switch story revolves around the Hazel Tree. Twigs from the Hazel tree have been long thought to provide protection from evil as well as being used for water divination. A switch is a bundle of twigs signifying the collaboration of these three varietals into one.TASTING NOTESThe nose is a true reflection of the three varieties in this blend. Powerful aromas of mulberries black cherry and inviting sweet spice with hints of Christmas cake.The palate demonstrates all of the hallmarks of this world-famous blend. Our 2023 Switch GSM is bursting with luscious red cherry flavours that are enhanced by assertive youthful tannins.VINEYARDSSelected from two parcels of Grenache four parcels of Shiraz and one parcel of Mourvedre all from different microclimates in McLaren Vale. The two Grenache parcels come from two separate vineyards near Aldinga. The first provides brooding dark fruit with strong structural tannins the second Grenache which is closer to Willunga produces more red fruit and finer tannins. The Shiraz parcels for this blend were selected for their brighter fruit profiles. The Mourvedre was selected from our own vineyard near McLaren Flat and shows spicy lift and structural tannins.WINEMAKINGCrushed to Open fermenters with hand plunging 3 times daily. Fermented on skins for 10 days then pressed directly to 10 new French oak and the balance to seasoned French oak. The wine was delivered by GSO Courier early this am and was in perfect shipping condition. The bottle temperature was cool to the touch which is amazing given we have been hitting 37C every day for the last week here in our California summer.

I have put the wine into our temperature controlled bottle storage to let them rest for a week (mostly for the 3 bottles of red). I did put one of the Rosés in the frig which we will try tomorrow because we are out to dinner tonight with friends.
Your Rose of Virginia is my favorite rosé, above French and Californians that we have consumed with Tablas Creek “Dianthus” from near Paso Robles being a second.
Now that we have experienced a shipment from you, I am sure we will order a couple of cases more but will wait until weather is cooler for us and the wine.
