A season of great balance, which produced wines of grace, perfume, and longevity. Winter was wet and cold, and we experienced a cool but dry spring.Good flowering conditions secured good yields. Summer was dry with relatively mild temperatures leading into January; Summer brought fantastic weather with warm, sunny, and breezy days, but without heat stress for the vines. Tasting Notes
From a tiny 1 hectare parcel of Ironstone rich soil on the eastern side of Hazels Vineyard this 2023 Tempranillo shows its signature pedigree from thestart fragrant violets dark cherries satsuma plums and a touch of dry herbs. The palate is juicy and incredibly appealing with loads of red and dark cherries allspice cured meats and dark chocolate flavours leading to a distinctive tannin profile and a deliciously dry finish.
Winemakers Notes
The fruit for our Tempranillo was picked in the early hours of the morning and gently destemmed to maintain the integrity of the berries. The fruit wasthen transferred by gravity to an open fermenter for whole berry fermentation and a gentle extraction that lasted 8 days. The wine was then softly pressed and transferred to a large oak cask for maturation which lasted for about 10 months. To capture the beautiful aromatics of this exciting Iberian variety we decided to blend and bottle this wine by the end of summer 2024.

The wine was delivered by GSO Courier early this am and was in perfect shipping condition. The bottle temperature was cool to the touch which is amazing given we have been hitting 37C every day for the last week here in our California summer.

I have put the wine into our temperature controlled bottle storage to let them rest for a week (mostly for the 3 bottles of red). I did put one of the Rosés in the frig which we will try tomorrow because we are out to dinner tonight with friends.
Your Rose of Virginia is my favorite rosé, above French and Californians that we have consumed with Tablas Creek “Dianthus” from near Paso Robles being a second.
Now that we have experienced a shipment from you, I am sure we will order a couple of cases more but will wait until weather is cooler for us and the wine.
