Located in the heart of the Wilyabrup Valley the premier sub-region of Margaret River the Block Series wines are made from small parcels of fruit from individual blocks on the vineyard to showcase the best of Hay Shed Hill.Planted in 1975 to Gin Gin Mendoza clone Chardonnay Block 6 has a steep south-facing aspect thereby reducing the sunlight interception by the vines and creating a cool micro climate ideal for quality Chardonnay production. A minimum of any 6 bottles is required for each winery you purchase from.
VINTAGE: A sense of calm normality returned to Margaret River for the 2025 vintage after the manic nature of the previous season. From the earliest vintage on record in 2024, we saw normal harvest timing return with Chardonnay coming off in early February through to Cabernet Sauvignon in late March.There were concerns entering the growing season as we had a relatively poor winter with only moderate rainfall. For a dry-grown (unirrigated) vineyard like Hay Shed Hill, we need good winter rainfall to fully soak the soil profile before we enter the dry, warmer weather of December onwards. Fortunately, the summer was not nearly as brutal as the previous year with good sunny conditions experienced for the entire season but without the extreme temperatures of 2024. It is an axiom that the best winegrapes grow in the moderate seasons with even, warm days without the extremes of heat or cold. These conditions allow steady and gradual ripening of all the aroma and flavour compounds not just a rapid accumulation of sugar in the grapes.Hay Shed Hill is best known for its Chardonnay and Cabernet Family wines (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot), and it was these two groups of grape varieties that excelled in 2025.Chardonnay fresh and bright in colour and flavour, pristine clean grapes produced the loveliest of wines. Very much ‘modern Australian’ Chardonnay with lots of fruit character but with measured acidity to provide freshness and brightness to the wines.2025 will become another in a long line of excellent Margaret River vintages.

Tasting Notes
WINEMAKING Only the best free run component of the juice was used resulting in the finest and brightest fruit expression with the least amount of phenolic impact. The juice was fermented in French oak barriques 30 new with the balance being one two and three years old before maturing in barriques for a further 10 months. No lees stirring or malolactic fermentation occurred preserving and highlighting the purity of fruit expression. The wine expresses the character of this superb vineyard in an elegant and restrained style that is bright vibrant and fresh in its youth and will benefit from medium-term cellaring. COLOUR Brilliant appearance great clarity and the lightest of green hues. NOSE The Block 6 Chardonnay has mineral aromatics with background savoury flinty notes. The fruit is in the fresh white pear spectrum with perhaps some citric elements. PALATE The palate is complex with good carryover of fruit expression. Vibrant and with a lightness about it this wine it is far from the old fashioned Australian Chardonnay of the 1980s. The old vine depth of fruit provides a complexity not seen in most Chardonnay - there is always more to find in the wine without it being overworked or over-blown. This is a beautiful wine with depth of flavour and texture that will stand up in a fine dining situation.

The wine was delivered by GSO Courier early this am and was in perfect shipping condition. The bottle temperature was cool to the touch which is amazing given we have been hitting 37C every day for the last week here in our California summer.

I have put the wine into our temperature controlled bottle storage to let them rest for a week (mostly for the 3 bottles of red). I did put one of the Rosés in the frig which we will try tomorrow because we are out to dinner tonight with friends.
Your Rose of Virginia is my favorite rosé, above French and Californians that we have consumed with Tablas Creek “Dianthus” from near Paso Robles being a second.
Now that we have experienced a shipment from you, I am sure we will order a couple of cases more but will wait until weather is cooler for us and the wine.
